University of Arkansas, Hillside Auditorium

Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas
Team: Perry Dean Rogers Partners Architects

Hillside Auditorium seamlessly integrates building and terrain, marking the University’s first landscape-over-structure project. Set within the University of Arkansas Campus Historic District and adjacent to the Chi Omega Greek Theatre, the design responds to a 40-foot elevation change through a series of terraced landforms that preserve important views to and from the historic theatre. The green roofs extend the landscape across the structure, each meeting grade at different levels along the slope. The landscape strategy establishes a sequence of outdoor spaces, including a pavilion and plaza that support event gathering, campus and circulation.
