PROCESS Landscape & Planning is a woman-owned landscape architecture and site planning studio based in Southern Maine. At PROCESS, we believe in the power of landscape architecture to enrich everyday life, build community and enhance the built and natural environment. We blend goals and visions with technical rigor, all in pursuit of creating places that endure, and that support community and ecosystems alike.
PROCESS approaches each project as an opportunity to understand the distinct needs of the client and the unique ecology of each location. With that in mind, creativity, research and dialogue with clients and collaborators are central to discovering design solutions. Every site offers its own challenges and opportunities; every client possesses unique aspirations and dreams; and every project creates places that enrich and inspire.
Who We Are
Amy Magida, PLA, AICP
The work of Amy Magida, the founder of PROCESS Landscape & Planning, is influenced by a love of craft and of multi-disciplinary collaboration. She is comfortable working across a variety of scales from temporary art installations to master plans. Prior to founding PROCESS, she worked at several esteemed landscape and architecture design firms including Michael Boucher Landscape Architecture in Freeport, Maine; OLIN in Philadelphia; and GANS Studio in New York. Amy has worked on a variety of landscape architecture projects in the United States, Canada, and further abroad. These include a small art museum on the mid-coast of Maine; a landscape master plan for housing at the University of Washington; and a 30-acre mixed-use community in southern Maine intended to ease the region's housing shortage.
Amy earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute and Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a board member of the Portland Parks Conservancy and served on the board of Architalx, an organization that brings renowned designers to lecture in Portland, Maine.
DESIGN APPROACH
At PROCESS Landscape & Planning we are dedicated to delivering thoughtful, innovative, and contemporary design solutions that respond to each client’s vision while carefully balancing budgetary requirements and site constraints. We draw inspiration from natural ecosystems, integrating their logic, resilience, and adaptability with architectural intent to create cohesive designs.
Each project follows a structured yet flexible methodology:
Exploration & Definition: Understanding site context, ecological systems, and project constraints then defining a project’s mission, goals, and core values.
Solution Development: Advancing the preferred concept and clarifying the character of the landscape in greater detail.
Documentation & Oversight: Documenting, permitting, and constructing the design with consideration for the integrity of the central ideas that drive each project.
Through this rigorous and coordinated process, we transform ideas into meaningful, high-performing places.
